PRESS RELEASE

Today marks the third anniversary of the brutal attack that claimed the life of Colonel Viplav Tripathi, Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, along with his family and four other AR personnel. On November 13, 2021, Colonel Tripathi’s convoy was ambushed by Meitei militants in S Sehken Village of Churachandpur district, near the Indo-Myanmar border. The attack occurred under the jurisdiction of Behiang police station.

Colonel Tripathi, who was returning from the Behiang company post to his battalion near Khuga dam, was accompanied by his wife and six-year-old son at the time of the attack. In addition to the tragic loss of Colonel Tripathi and his family, four Assam Rifles personnel were also killed in the assault, while at least six others, including a havildar, the CO’s driver, and three members of the Quick Reaction Team, sustained injuries.

On this somber occasion, the Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) General Headquarters offers heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and remembers the immense sacrifices made by our valiant soldiers who serve to safeguard the nation's borders against secessionist elements. The KSO stands firm in its belief that the sacrifices of these brave soldiers should never be forgotten, and that justice must prevail.

The KSO condemns the lack of progress in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. Despite the passage of three years, the individuals responsible for the deaths of Colonel Tripathi, his family, and the Assam Rifles personnel continue to operate with impunity, allegedly protected by the state government. It is deeply concerning that the same militants who carried out this attack have also been actively involved in the ongoing violence and killings of innocent Kuki civilians during the current conflict.

We express our grave concern over the government’s failure to address this matter and demand immediate action. We urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to prioritize the apprehension of those responsible for the attack on Colonel Tripathi and his family, and ensure that they face justice for their actions. The continued delay in holding these terror groups accountable is an affront to the memory of the fallen soldiers and their families, as well as to the larger fight for peace and justice in the region.

The KSO calls for swift and decisive action to ensure that such tragic acts are not allowed to go unpunished, and that the sacrifices of our soldiers are respected through tangible steps towards justice.
