Ukhrul, June 27, 2025: The Katha Katamnao Long and Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association have issued a strong ultimatum condemning an alleged mob attack by members of the Kuki community on a passenger Winger vehicle at Mongkot Chepu village on 26 June 2025. The incident reportedly resulted in injuries to a lady passenger and the driver. The organisations have further accused the Mongkot Chepu Village Chief of threatening passengers under the influence of alcohol.
Labeling the incident as "utterly condemnable," the student bodies claimed that this is not an isolated case, but part of a pattern of alleged aggression by the Kuki community residing along the Ukhrul-Imphal road (NH-202). They cited the May 3, 2023 conflict as a starting point of consistent provocations and claimed their efforts to maintain peace have repeatedly been disregarded.
According to the statement, both organisations had been issuing press releases and ultimatums since 2023, warning against attacks on passengers traveling the route. They claimed that despite repeated meetings with Kuki village leaders, no substantial progress was made.
The ultimatum demands that those involved in the recent attack be produced within 24 hours from the issuance of the statement. Failure to comply, they warned, will result in a total blockade of Kuki movement along the NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road) and within Ukhrul District. They stated that the consequences of non-compliance would be "serious and unbearable."
The joint statement was signed by Mashungmi Zingkhai and Wungmayung Sayai from Katha Katamnao Long, and Mathingso Jajo and Worngachan Muivah from the Tangkhul Naga Valley Students' Association.
The situation remains tense as communities await developments in the next 24 hours. Authorities have not yet responded publicly to the ultimatum.
