Railways Announces Over 1 Lakh Vacancies Since 2024; 50,000 More Jobs Expected in FY 2026-27

New Delhi, July 19, 2025: In a major recruitment drive, the Ministry of Railways has announced that over 1.08 lakh vacancies have been released since 2024, with more than 50,000 new appointments planned for the financial year 2026–27. The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have already made over 9,000 appointments in the first quarter of the current financial year (2025–26), with plans underway to recruit 50,000 more candidates within the year.

According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the RRBs have conducted Computer Based Tests (CBTs) for more than 1.86 crore candidates since November 2024, covering seven notifications and a total of 55,197 vacancies. The recruitment process is part of a broader push to strengthen manpower and improve efficiency across the Indian Railways.

In an effort to make the recruitment process more transparent and secure, Aadhaar-based e-KYC authentication has been introduced for the first time in such large-scale exams. The Railways Ministry reports a success rate of over 95% in identity verification. Additionally, electronic jammers have been deployed across all examination centres to prevent cheating and maintain the integrity of the testing process.

The RRBs have also prioritized accessibility by allotting exam centres closer to candidates' residences, with special consideration for women and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). The move aims to reduce logistical challenges and promote inclusivity.

With twelve notifications already issued for over 1.08 lakh vacancies, the Ministry confirmed that recruitment efforts will continue with another 50,000 appointments expected in FY 2026–27.
