Clarification on Munirka Murder Case: Culprit Identified as Meitei, Not Pangal

📍New Delhi, Oct 14: Following the tragic murder of a young tribal woman in Munirka, Delhi, misinformation had circulated online claiming that the accused was a Pangal (Manipuri-Pangal) man. However, official verification and credible reports have confirmed that this information is factually incorrect.

The accused has been identified as Thangjam Viney Meitei, a resident belonging to the Meitei community, not Pangal as previously alleged.

The victim, Vincy Nengneithem Khongsai, reportedly from the Kuki community, was found dead at her rented accommodation in Munirka, Delhi on the night of October 12. Preliminary investigations indicate that she was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, who hails from the Meitei community.

According to police sources, the couple had a dispute, and on the evening of the incident, between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. a heated argument escalated into violence. The accused allegedly attacked Vincy with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck.

As per statements from the victim's family, the accused made a video call to Vincy's father, forcing him to witness the horrifying act. During the call, Vincy was reportedly seen crying and pleading for help. Moments before her death, she was heard saying, "I will be with God when I die," followed by "Amen." The family shared this heartbreaking detail during her funeral service in Munirka.

Following the attack, the accused allegedly attempted suicide. He was found critically injured after the house owner alerted police. Responding officers recovered the victim's body and rescued the accused, who was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition in the ICU.

Vincy's body is currently kept at the mortuary for post-mortem examination, while police continue their investigation into the case.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Kuki community, reopening emotional wounds from the ongoing Manipur conflict that began in May 2023. Community leaders have expressed deep sorrow and outrage, noting that such acts of violence further strain the fragile relations between the Kuki and Meitei communities.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, emphasizing that false claims about the identity of the accused can deepen existing communal divides. The Delhi Police have launched a full investigation to determine the sequence of events and the motive behind this horrific crime.
