Tonzang village, located in northern Chin State, Myanmar, between Tedim and Behiang near the India (Manipur) border, has become a war zone as Chinland Council (CC) fighters and the Myanmar military junta (Tatmadaw) troops move towards the area from opposite directions. Fearing for their lives, hundreds of innocent villagers have fled into nearby jungles seeking safety and shelter.
Tonzang is part of Tonzang Township, a remote, mountainous region mainly inhabited by the Zo (Chin) ethnic people, who share close cultural and linguistic ties with the Zomi and Mizo communities across the Indian border. The area has limited road access and basic facilities, making life even harder during conflicts. CDF Tonzang is based here.
Tedim, which lies south of Tonzang, is said to be a stronghold of the Zomi Revolutionary Army–Eastern Command (ZRA-EC). They are believed to be well-equipped and ever ready to strike back strongly against any attack. Their presence adds to the growing tension in the region as multiple armed groups move closer to each other.
With winter approaching and the harvest season already over, the people of Tonzang and nearby villages face great hardship. Nights are now cold, and food supplies are running low. Many families with small children and elderly people remain stranded in unsafe areas, unsure of where to run or which place is secure. Local sources told KV NEWS that heavy firing could break out at any time, leaving villagers terrified and helpless.
For years, the Myanmar junta army has carried out brutal killings, airstrikes, and attacks on innocent civilians across Chin State and other regions. Thousands of people, including women and children, have lost their lives. Such cruelty and violence must be condemned by the international community. The world cannot remain silent while the military continues its crimes against its own people.
