Senapati, Feb 13, 2026: In a major anti-drug operation, security forces along with an Executive Magistrate destroyed approximately six acres of illegal poppy plantation at Ngatan Hill range under Senapati Police Station and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district on Thursday.
According to official sources, the joint team carried out the destruction drive as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal cultivation of poppy in the hill districts. The plantation, spread across nearly six acres, was completely uprooted and destroyed during the operation.
During the drive, eight makeshift huts set up at the plantation sites were also burnt and dismantled. Security personnel further destroyed several items found at the spot, including three bags of fertilizers, fifteen bags of salt, four bundles of irrigation pipes, and four spray pumps used for cultivation.
One individual identified as Gun Bahadur Rai (59), a resident of Thulochour/Tapon Village, Irang Part II, T. Waichong, was found present at the poppy field during the operation and has been arrested. He has been taken into custody for further legal proceedings.
Authorities stated that such operations will continue in order to eliminate illegal poppy cultivation and prevent drug-related activities in the region.
