Manipur Launches Massive Hunt After Deadly Tronglaobi Blast

Imphal, April 7: The Manipur government has launched a large-scale security operation to apprehend those responsible for the Tronglaobi bomb blast that killed two children early Tuesday. Authorities said the perpetrators would be pursued “at the earliest,” even as their identities remain unknown.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced that the case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following consultations with the Union Home Minister and state legislators. Condemning the attack, he described it as an attempt by vested interests to disrupt peace in the state.

A massive combing operation is currently underway, involving joint teams of State Police, Assam Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), with aerial support from helicopters. The Chief Minister said security forces have been instructed to intensify efforts and act swiftly.

A high-level security review meeting was convened with representatives from the Army, Assam Rifles, State Police, and CRPF to coordinate the response. Officials said operations have been strengthened, including the redeployment of state commandos to hill areas with bulletproof vehicles.

Appealing for calm, Singh urged residents not to be swayed by emotions and to cooperate with authorities in restoring normalcy.

Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh echoed the Chief Minister’s concerns, calling the attackers “peace disruptors” seeking to destabilize the region. He confirmed that orders had been issued to launch an extensive operation to capture those behind the blast.

Separately, violence was reported in Bishnupur district, where five people sustained bullet injuries after protesters attempted to storm a CRPF camp earlier in the day. Two of the injured later died, while others suffered minor injuries.

Both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister visited injured victims and their families at a hospital in Imphal. The Chief Minister also expressed condolences over the death of a minor girl at a relief camp in Akampat and announced ex gratia assistance and support for the affected families.
