We, the undersigned joint Civil Society Organizations of the Leimata area, strongly condemn the reckless gun firing carried out by NSCN-IM militants from Nungsai-I (Chingkao) on innocent Kuki villagers who were proceeding to their fields/farms.
In this unfortunate incident, Mr. Nohjang Haokip S/o (L) Khelthang Haokip of Joujangtek, Noney Block, Noney Sub-Division, Noney District, Manipur sustained bullet injuries. He was unarmed and engaged only in his daily livelihood activities.
The Kuki community residing in the area has consistently upheld the principle of peaceful coexistence with all communities. It is deeply unfortunate and unacceptable that such acts of violence have been directed at civilians.
This attack is a violation of human life and dignity, and poses a direct threat to peace, harmony, and mutual trust in the region. Targeting villagers, especially those working in their fields, cannot be justified under any circumstance.
We demand:
- Immediate accountability for those responsible for the firing.
- Safety and protection for all Kuki villagers, particularly farmers and civilians.
- Concrete steps to prevent any recurrence of such provocative acts along community boundaries.
We reiterate our commitment to peace. Silence in the face of injustice will only embolden further aggression. We call upon all sections of society to uphold the value of human life and work towards restoring confidence among the affected villagers.
Issued by:
