Noney, August 17, 2026 (DIO-IPR): The District Administration, Noney, today undertook a fish stocking initiative at the Ijei River in Makhuam-4, Noney, with the release of 10,000 fish fingerlings into the river.
The programme was led by the Deputy Commissioner, Noney, in the presence of the District Fisheries Officer, Noney, and the SDO, Haochong. The fish fingerlings released included Common Carp, Grass Carp and Rohu, with the objective of promoting fishery resources and supporting the livelihood opportunities of local communities.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the local community to make optimal and sustainable use of the fishery resources created through the initiative. He urged the people to protect the fish population and ensure that the benefits of the stocking programme are sustained for the future.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the public to refrain from using battery-operated fishing methods, which can harm aquatic life and adversely affect the fish population and river ecosystem. He stressed the importance of adopting responsible and sustainable fishing practices for the conservation of aquatic resources.
The District Administration called upon the local community to actively participate in protecting the Ijei River and its aquatic ecosystem and to extend cooperation in ensuring the successful growth and conservation of the stocked fish population.
