Imphal, August 31, 2026: The Saikul Block Congress Committee has begun preparations for the 2027 Manipur Legislative Assembly election, with the party reconstituting its block-level committee and assigning responsibilities to 41 office-bearers.
An order issued by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president O. Ibobi Singh on August 10, 2026, approved the reconstitution of the Saikul Block Congress Committee with immediate effect and until further orders.
The Congress said its preparations for the forthcoming election have gained momentum, with the party expressing confidence in making significant gains in the state. It also claimed that the BJP-led government has failed to deliver peace and stability, alleging that violence, killings and unrest have continued under its rule.
The party further said that people would prefer a political formation capable of restoring genuine peace and stability and addressing corruption and governance-related concerns.
For the Saikul area, the Congress identified high-quality blacktopped roads and pucca bridges as among the major priorities. It said inadequate road and bridge connectivity has hindered development and made it difficult for other developmental activities to reach the people.
