Naga Militants Gunfight: 1 Dead, 6 Injured in Manipur’s Noney

NONEY, August 29, 2026: Escalating clashes between armed groups in Manipur’s Noney district have resulted in fatal casualties and multiple injuries across two days of intense gunfire.

On the morning of August 29, 2026, a fatal clash between the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF-Jenchui) and NSCN-IM/ZUF (Kamson) at Khumji left one cadre dead and six others injured. The deceased was identified as Jagailung, 29, a self-styled Second Lieutenant of ZUF-J from Muktina, who succumbed to bullet wounds sustained during the heavy firefight.

Among the six wounded ZUF-J cadres, 30-year-old Sharon Inpui of Puichi, Noney, suffered chest and arm bullet wounds along with splinter injuries, and is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, Langol. The five remaining injured cadres are receiving medical care at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).


This morning's encounter follows a separate heavy exchange of gunfire on August 28 around 5:00 PM at Puichi, Houchong, where another ZUF (Kamson) cadre, identified as Dingtiplung Golmei of Leishok village, was killed.

Local authorities and security forces have intensified monitoring across the district as the situation remains tense.
