NEW DELHI, August 25, 2026 — NCC Aizawl, representing Mizoram in the Junior Girls (U-17) category of the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, defeated Chhattisgarh on Monday to secure a place in the final.
The 2026 edition began on August 18 at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi and will run until September 24, with matches being held in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. A total of 107 teams are taking part across three categories: Junior Girls (U-17), Junior Boys (U-17) and Sub-Junior Boys (U-15). One of the participating teams is from Sri Lanka.
The Junior Girls competition is being held in New Delhi from August 18 to 27. NCC Aizawl will face Jharkhand in the final on August 27.
The tournament offers a total cash prize of Rs 37.7 lakh, while 90 promising players will receive one-time scholarships. The scholarships are intended to recognise promising young players and support their development.
In the Junior Girls category, quarter-finalists have already received Rs 40,000 each. The tournament also honours outstanding performances through trophies and individual recognition, while AIFF coaches and club talent scouts are expected to watch the competition for emerging players.
The Subroto Cup, organised under the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society and the Indian Air Force, is one of India's major school football tournaments and has helped identify young football talent over the years.
For NCC Aizawl, the final against Jharkhand now presents an opportunity to bring the prestigious Junior Girls title to Mizoram.
