CCPUR Plans Rainwater Conservation Works Till May 2027

LAMKA, September 2, 2026 (DIO): The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Churachandpur, held a meeting on the “Catch the Rain: Work to be Done by Each Department up to 31 May 2027” campaign at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Executive Director, DRDA, and Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Shri Krishna Kumar, IAS, and attended by senior district officials and heads of various concerned departments.

Officials from the ADC, DFO, CEO/ADC, PD/DRDA, ZEO, SDOs/BDOs, PHED, WRD, PWD, Health, Agriculture, Horticulture and other departments participated in the meeting.

The meeting focused on finalising specific works to be undertaken by each line department, identifying funding sources and mechanisms, and establishing a system to monitor and review progress until May 31, 2027.

Project Director, DRDA, Shri Jameson Hangsing, presented the proposed department-wise contributions and activities under the campaign. The participating departments discussed the proposals in detail, including their respective responsibilities, planned works, funding arrangements and implementation mechanisms.

Addressing the officials, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar urged all heads of departments to take concrete steps towards rainwater conservation and harvesting. He particularly stressed the need to install rooftop rainwater harvesting systems in every government department and office.

The Deputy Commissioner said rainwater harvesting should be treated as an essential part of water conservation rather than merely as a campaign activity.

He also directed departments to adhere strictly to the prescribed timelines under the Catch the Rain campaign and ensure timely planning, execution and reporting of assigned works.

Krishna Kumar further stressed the need to identify overlaps between departmental schemes and programmes to prevent similar works from being undertaken or reported more than once. He said better coordination would help strengthen accountability and ensure optimal utilisation of available resources.

The Catch the Rain campaign aims to promote rainwater harvesting, water conservation and sustainable management of available water resources through coordinated interventions by different departments, with measurable progress targeted by May 31, 2027.
