KSO-TB Condemns Burning of Lhungjang School by Naga Guards

KANGPOKPI — On 7 September 2026, the Kuki Students' Organisation - Twilang Block (KSO-TB) issued a press statement expressing strong condemnation and deep anguish over the burning down of Lhungjang Primary School by Naga Village Guards led by NSCN-IM.

The student body denounced the arson targeting an educational institution, terming it an inhumane and cowardly act, as well as a direct attack on students' right to education and future. KSO-TB noted that schools must never become targets under any circumstances and stated that the incident was a deliberate attempt to intimidate, harass, and displace Kuki villagers in Lhungjang while creating fear among students.

Demands Raised by KSO-TB:

  • Immediate Inquiry: The Government of Manipur and the Kangpokpi District Administration must take prompt cognizance and conduct a fair, transparent investigation.

  • Legal Action: Perpetrators involved in the arson must be booked and punished under the law of the land at the earliest.

  • Security & Reconstruction: Adequate security must be deployed to Lhungjang village, and the school premises should be reconstructed immediately to safeguard students' academic careers.

  • Compensation: Financial compensation must be provided for the loss of school property.

KSO-TB appealed to all authorities, civil society organisations, and student bodies to condemn the attack on the educational facility, affirming that it will not remain silent on any actions endangering the lives and education of Kuki students.
