New Delhi, September 8, 2026: Congress leader K. Raju, along with 20 SC/ST MPs of the Congress party, reached Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi to seek registration of a Zero FIR over an alleged act of untouchability committed against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at Haldwani on August 10, 2026.
According to K. Raju, the MPs sought action under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. However, after nearly two hours of discussions and persuasion, the SHO allegedly refused to register the Zero FIR.
Raju further alleged that the SHO also declined to provide the MPs with written reasons for refusing to register the FIR.
The Congress leader questioned the situation, saying that if elected SC/ST MPs face difficulties in getting an FIR registered, the plight of ordinary SC/ST citizens seeking justice in cases of alleged atrocities can only be imagined.
