Imphal, September 9, 2026: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a man at Thangal Bazar on September 7, following an investigation into an FIR registered at City Police Station.
The deceased, originally from Borojalenga Village in Silchar, Assam, and currently residing at Thangal Bazar, was allegedly murdered by having his neck slashed with a machete.
The two arrested accused have been identified as Yendrembam Paona Singh, 60, and Laishram Ngongo Meitei, 39, both residents of Kanglasiphai Makha Leikai.
According to the police investigation, Paona Singh allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that the motive was revenge following a fallout with the victim over their alleged illicit dealings involving contraband ganja.
Police said Paona Singh, accompanied by the co-accused, went to Thangal Bazar with the alleged intention of killing the victim and subsequently attacked him with a machete.
During the investigation, police seized the blood-stained clothes allegedly worn by Paona Singh at the time of the incident. A two-wheeler reportedly used by the accused to travel to the crime scene has also been recovered.
Police are continuing efforts to recover the machete allegedly used in the murder. Further investigation into the case is underway.
