CoTU Issues Five-Point Charter After Killing of Two Kuki Youths

KANGPOKPI, November 1, 2026: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has announced a five-point charter of demands following the killing of two Kuki youths, Paoginal Hangshing (20) and Tinginlun Chongloi (20), who were allegedly kidnapped from Taphou Kuki Village by armed Naga militants.

In a press statement issued on November 1, CoTU expressed profound anguish over the killings and demanded immediate intervention by the government to ensure justice and accountability.

The committee's demands include the immediate removal of Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho over his alleged failure to secure the safe release of the two youths and protect lives in the affected areas. It has also demanded the immediate removal of NSCN-IM camps from the Senapati region.

Further, CoTU has called for the extension of Kangpokpi Police jurisdiction up to Taphou Kuki Village to ensure adequate security and effective law enforcement. It has also demanded that the investigation into the killings be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for an independent and thorough probe.

The fifth demand calls for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the kidnapping and killing of the two youths.

CoTU has maintained that it will neither accept nor claim the mortal remains of the deceased until all five demands are fulfilled, stressing that the loss of two innocent lives cannot be met with silence, indifference or mere assurances.

Meanwhile, citing the failure to secure the safe release of the two youths and the subsequent discovery of their bodies, CoTU announced a further 24-hour extension of the ongoing total shutdown, which was scheduled to conclude at 5 pm on November 1.

The committee appealed to the general public to extend their cooperation and solidarity until the demands are addressed by the concerned authorities.
