Two Missing Kuki Youths Found Dead in Kangpokpi; Public Outrage Erupts

LAMKA, November 1, 2026: Two Kuki youths, who had gone missing from Taphou Kuki village on 28 October 2026, were found dead on Sunday (01.11.2026) following an extensive joint search operation by security forces in Kangpokpi district, triggering widespread outrage, protests and demands for justice.

According to an official statement, multiple search operations had been launched following the disappearance of the two individuals, involving joint teams of Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam Rifles.

In continuation of the search efforts, an extensive joint operation was conducted on November 1 by security personnel comprising Manipur Police, the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), CRPF, Assam Rifles and the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

The operation covered the general area east of National Highway-2, along the SP Road, where the joint teams recovered two dead bodies during the search.

The bodies were subsequently taken for necessary legal formalities and further procedures, including post-mortem examination.

Public Outrage and Protests in Kangpokpi

The discovery of the two bodies sparked widespread anger and grief across Kangpokpi district. A large number of locals, family members and concerned citizens gathered at Kangpokpi District Hospital, demanding justice for the deceased and the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killings.

Protesters expressed deep anguish over the deaths and called upon the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were identified, apprehended and brought to justice without further delay.

The situation reportedly turned tense as public anger intensified, prompting the deployment of police and security personnel to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation.

Search Operations to Continue

In its statement, the authorities said that necessary legal formalities and other procedures were being carried out by the police.

It further stated that extensive search and combing operations would continue in the area to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.

The brutal deaths of the two youths have heightened tensions in Kangpokpi, with the affected families and members of the community demanding a transparent investigation, accountability and swift justice.

The circumstances surrounding their disappearance and deaths remain under investigation.
