Update on the Minor Rape Case of Kakching, Manipur.
The Rapist has surrendered to the police. Three others involed in kidnapping the minor, the red colour Maruti Van and the parents of the rapist, who shelter the victim and the rapist are not arrested until now. Police has not taken any further action to arrest them. The victim is still suffering from trauma. NE Helpline is giving trauma counselling. Police need to take action as per the law and the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act. Asian Human Rights Commission has taken note of the crime and has appealed to the Indian Government to ensure justice to victim, punish the culprits as per of the law. AHRC has also written to member organisations and others to appeal to the Prime Minister of India, National Human Rights Commission, Nation Commission for Women, National Commission for Scheduled Caste and the Chief Minister of Manipur. North East Support Centre and Helpline team has met Manipur State Commission for Women, and demanded for stringent action against the culprits.
