Lamka, May 9, 2025 --- A meaningful discussion took place this afternoon at the Zomi Council office in Lamka with Shri Pradeep Joshi, Media Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who is currently visiting the region.
According to Media & Publicity of Zomi Council, the conversation focused on the ongoing conflict in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023. Concerns were raised over the emerging narrative portraying the violence as a religious issue or ethnic cleansing driven by faith. Questions were also posed regarding the RSS's perceived silence on the destruction of over 350 Christian churches and centres in the Imphal valley.
In response, Shri Joshi clarified that, from the RSS's perspective, the conflict is not religious in nature. He emphasised the importance of truth-based clarity and warned against divisive misinformation. The discussion also addressed the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) who fled to metro cities, neighbouring states, and other districts within Manipur. The issue of a separate administration was also raised.
Members from various business communities in Lamka attended the meeting, many of whom shared personal stories of multi-generational residence and peaceful coexistence in the town. They affirmed that Hindu and other places of worship remain unharmed and that the spirit of secularism is thriving in Lamka.
The gathering concluded with a shared understanding that the pain in Manipur is deep and complex. All present agreed that religious framing only distorts the real issues, and called for continued dialogue, healing, and unity in the pursuit of lasting peace.
