Karenni Force captures Myanmar Junta Soldiers

July 4, 2025: In a significant development highlighting the intensifying conflict in Myanmar, the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF), a prominent pro-democracy armed group, has reportedly taken several soldiers from the Myanmar Army's 134th Infantry Battalion as prisoners of war (POWs).

Sources within the resistance movement claim the capture took place during a recent clash in the conflict-ridden Karenni (Kayah) State, where KNDF and allied forces have steadily gained ground against the military junta.

The growing success of pro-democracy rebel groups across the country marks a turning point in the resistance against military rule, which began after the February 2021 coup. The ongoing fighting reflects the deepening instability in Myanmar, with no clear resolution in sight.

Observers note that the prolonged unrest has been exacerbated by the influx of narcotics and illegal weapons, with allegations pointing to external influences—particularly China—seeking to benefit from a weakened and divided Myanmar. What was once a relatively peaceful nation is now embroiled in a prolonged civil conflict, threatening regional stability.
