The heart of Delhi, Paharganj, which attracts thousands of tourists and locals every day, is left in a miserable state due to the sheer negligence of the concerned civic authorities. These pictures speak louder than words—roads filled with potholes, dirty waterlogging, and broken bricks dangerously scattered across the streets.
Despite being a hub of hotels, markets, and eateries, Paharganj looks like a forgotten corner of the city. Visitors coming from different parts of India and abroad are welcomed not with the charm of Delhi but with puddles, mud, and crumbling streets. This is not only a matter of civic embarrassment but also a serious health and safety hazard. Stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, and broken roads increase the risk of accidents for pedestrians, cyclists, and rickshaw pullers alike.
What is even more shameful is that Paharganj lies right next to Connaught Place and New Delhi Railway Station—areas that symbolize the capital city. Yet, while crores are spent beautifying certain parts of Delhi, places like Paharganj are left ignored and uncared for. Tourists staying in budget hotels here get a lasting impression of filth and chaos, damaging Delhi’s reputation globally.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Public Works Department (PWD) must be held accountable for this neglect. Regular maintenance, proper drainage, and resurfacing of roads should not be a luxury but a basic necessity. If these agencies cannot manage one of Delhi’s busiest neighborhoods, then it is a clear failure of governance.
Delhi deserves better, and so do its residents and visitors. Paharganj must not be left as a symbol of civic apathy. It is time the authorities wake up and take immediate action before this neglect leads to bigger public health crises and accidents.
