Imphal, 24 Sept 2025 — On the basis of specific intelligence inputs about the presence of armed militants in Kameng area under Imphal West district, a joint team of District Police Imphal West, Bishnupur Police, 33 Assam Rifles and other security forces launched a special operation today (24.09.2025) at about 01:00 am.
At the spot examination, Singh admitted that he is a bailed-out member of the banned outfit PLA and revealed that he continues to work for the group. He also disclosed that he had been arrested earlier on 22.04.2007.
Further examination established that Singh was directly involved in the September 19, 2025 ambush on Assam Rifles personnel. The attack occurred at Sabal Leikai, Nambol (District Bishnupur) around 05:30 pm, targeting 33 Assam Rifles troops.
According to police, after firing at the Assam Rifles personnel, Singh and other militants fled towards the Loktak Lake side and concealed their arms and ammunition at a secret location. Based on his revelation, the following arms and ammunition used in the ambush were recovered:
01 (one) A 4 rifle along with 4 magazines
01 (one) HK rifle along with 2 magazines
02 (two) AK rifles along with 5 magazines
01 (one) INSAS rifle along with 3 magazines
03 (three) lathode shells
170 rounds of AK ammunition
216 rounds of M/16 ammunition
67 rounds of INSAS ammunition
One mobile handset
One wallet
One Aadhaar card
Police authorities said that the examination of the arrested person is still ongoing and that “certain leads have been established.” Raids are being conducted to apprehend other culprits involved in the ambush.
The operation and arrest were confirmed in a press note issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, Manipur Police Headquarters, Imphal.
