Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has come across a social media post stating that villagers in border areas of Khengjoi Subdivision, Chandel District, are being asked to pay around Rs. 2 lakh per Distribution Transformer with promises of electrification. The matter is under investigation and an enquiry has been initiated. MSPDCL reiterates that no official or individual involved in such unauthorised activity will be spared if the matter is found to be true.
MSPDCL would like to clarify the following for public awareness:

At present, there is no provision for consumers or villages to pay for the installation of distribution transformers for electrification. MSPDCL has not authorised any person or group to collect money for transformers or electrification work.

The ongoing works in the area pertain solely to the RDSS Loss Reduction Programme, which focuses on infrastructure strengthening, including: Augmentation of 11 kV High Tension (HT) lines, Installation of LT AB cables. No new transformer installation for electrification is being undertaken under this programme.

MSPDCL also informs the public that all un-electrified households across the State have already been identified, and the Electrification of Left-out Households under RDSS is currently in the final stage of tendering. This project aims to electrify 36,972 left-out households across Manipur through installation of 827 Distribution Transformers, 629 km of 11 kV lines and 1,662 km of LT AB cable.
