Not all heroes wear uniforms or hold positions of power. Some quietly serve humanity from the driver’s seat of an autorickshaw. This Christmas, Mr Kaisat Kuki chose compassion over profit by offering free rides to passengers travelling along NH-2 between Motbung and Kangpokpi.
Early in the morning, he filled his fuel tank and pasted a simple message on his autorickshaw: “Christmas Offer – Free Fare Today.” For the rest of the day, he carried commuters without charging a single rupee. Mr Kaisat earns his livelihood by driving this route daily, yet he decided to give back, even when life itself is not easy.
In a region scarred by pain, displacement and uncertainty, such small acts carry deep meaning. Mr Kaisat’s gesture is a quiet reminder that humanity still exists in the Kuki Hills. His kindness speaks louder than speeches, restoring faith in ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This Christmas, his free ride became a journey of hope.
