‘Khal’ means Thangkhal, and ‘Vontawi’ means sons and daughters (children).
The word ‘Thangkhal’ comes from ‘Thaang’ (trap) and ‘Khalh’ (a group). Some elders also describe it as ‘thick clouds covering the mountains.’
On this day, the 2nd ‘Khalvontawi Meet’ was held at the residence of Miss Hahat and Miss Rosny in Munirka, South Delhi.
A monthly newsletter in the Thangkhal dialect called ‘KHAL-VONTAWI’ (Voice of Thangkhal) was also started by Mr Bruce K. Thangkhal, with financial support from Mr Khailianlal @ Zamin K. Thangkhal. This was the first issue of the newsletter, and it continued for years.
On 21st September, 2006, a relief fund called ‘Khalvontawi Donghuh Fund (KVDF)’ was set up.
Earlier, on 4th April, 2006, a ‘TBC Day Celebration-cum-Thangkhal Meet’ was held at the residence of Mr S. Hangminlian Mate in Munirka.
The 1st ‘Khalvontawi Meet’ had taken place on 18th October, 2005, at Ms Hahat’s residence, Munirka, but a proper forum was not formed until ‘KV Delhi’ came into existence.
On 25th January, 2013, the ‘Khalvontawi Football Club (KVFC)’ was created, with Mr Bruce K. Thangkhal as Manager and Mr Khaltal Mate as Captain.
KVFC took part in ‘Zomi Nam Ni’ tournaments in Delhi and also organised several 4-men soccer events in Gurgaon, Haryana.
