The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, has called upon the concerned authorities to immediately stop a proposed cycling event scheduled to pass through Kangpokpi District on December 19.
In a press release issued by the media cell of the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) on Tuesday (16 Dec 2025), COTU expressed serious concern over the proposed cycling mission by Malem Thongam Meetei, reportedly planned under the banner of the "Manipur Peace Route". The event is scheduled to take place between 8 am and 3 pm on December 19, 2025.
COTU stated that the proposed route through Kangpokpi District could provoke tension and disturb communal harmony, particularly during the festive Christmas season. The organisation emphasised that the Kuki-Zo community of Kangpokpi District, being predominantly Christian, is observing Christmas and does not welcome any activity that may escalate tensions.
The committee reiterated that the Kuki-Zo community is peace-loving and urged the authorities to take preventive measures to avoid any untoward incidents. It cautioned that if any incidents arise in connection with the proposed cycling event, COTU and the Kuki-Zo community of Kangpokpi District should not be held responsible.
According to the press release, COTU maintained that the full responsibility for any such incident would rest with the concerned authorities if the proposed cycling event is allowed to proceed through the district despite objections.
