Senapati, Jan 28: The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has announced an immediate counter-bandh in response to the continued shutdown enforced by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), citing serious hardship faced by Naga commuters.
In a press release issued on January 28, the NPO stated that despite a joint appeal by the United Naga Council (UNC) and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the bandh has not been lifted. The organisation said the ongoing disruption has severely affected the movement of people, especially those travelling for medical treatment and flight-related purposes.
The NPO described the continued bandh as irresponsible and unacceptable, stating that it has caused immense suffering to the general public. The organisation also expressed concern over the violation of basic human rights and disregard for public welfare.
In view of the situation, the NPO resolved to enforce a counter-bandh with immediate effect. It further urged the concerned authorities to take serious note of the matter and ensure the safety, dignity, and free movement of the public.
The organisation also appealed to the people to cooperate fully, maintain discipline, and uphold unity during this critical period.
