PRESS STATEMENT
Lamka; 27th January 2026
The Zomi Students' Federation expresses deep concern about the recent tensions reported between sections of the Kuki-Zo and Zeliangrong Inpui Naga communities in parts of Manipur. This development is particularly unfortunate, coming amid nearly 33 months of prolonged conflict, loss, and displacement.
At this critical juncture, the escalation between our Naga and Kuki-Zo brothers by supposedly respectable and representative organisations is deeply disturbing. Any conflict between the Nagas and Kukis would only drag other hill and valley communities, like the other Nagas and Zo ethnic communities, like Zomis and Hmars, into unnecessary contestations.
The Zomi Students' Federation believes that dialogue, restraint, and mutual respect remain the only sustainable path forward. We remain committed and ready to contribute towards reconciliation and earnestly pray for a peaceful resolution of differences between the Kuki-Zo and the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga.
We also reaffirm that it is in the best interest of all indigenous communities to live with security, dignity, and harmony in their own ancestral lands and territories, without fear or coercion. Peace in the hills cannot be achieved through force, but through empathy, accountability, and collective wisdom.
The Zomi Students' Federation appeals to all concerned parties, civil bodies, and authorities to act with responsibility and foresight, prioritising peace, human life, and long-term coexistence over short-term assertions.
We continue to pray for healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace among our brethren and neighbours.
