RESIDENTS of Taphou Kuki village in Kangpokpi district staged a sit-in protest on Monday, 25 May 2026, demanding the unconditional release of 14 villagers who were allegedly taken hostage by Naga civil society organisations based in Senapati district, reportedly led by the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA).
The protest was held within the village premises, where demonstrators raised slogans and appealed to the concerned authorities and organisations to ensure the safe and immediate release of the villagers.
According to the protesters, the 14 villagers from Taphou Kuki were allegedly detained by SDSA-led Naga groups following the May 13 ambush incident in which three Kuki pastors lost their lives.
The protesters described the alleged detention of the civilians as “inhumane” and urged the government and concerned organisations to intervene immediately to prevent further tension in the area.
