CoTU Condemns Partial and Selective Security Operations in Leimakhong–Kangchup Area; Imposes Emergency Indefinite Bandh Along NH-2 and NH-37.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) expresses its strongest condemnation of the alleged partisan and selective conduct of security operations in the Leimakhong–Kangchup area amidst the ongoing tensions involving Kuki and Kaccha Naga communities. CoTU is deeply disturbed by reports of security actions that, in the perception of the affected people, have failed to ensure equal protection and impartial enforcement of law and order.
CoTU asserts that the primary responsibility of the security forces and the Government is to safeguard every citizen without discrimination. Any action or omission that creates an impression of bias only aggravates the prevailing crisis and erodes public confidence in the institutions entrusted with maintaining peace and security.
The Committee further highlights the recent tragic killing of three Christian pastors and twelve innocent Kuki villagers, incidents that have caused widespread grief, fear, and outrage among the Kuki-Zo people. Equally distressing are reports of attacks on villages, destruction of homes, and the displacement of innocent civilians. CoTU reiterates that the loss of every innocent life is unacceptable and demands that all perpetrators be identified and brought to justice through a transparent and time-bound process.
In view of the deteriorating security situation and the continuing threat faced by innocent civilians, CoTU calls upon the Government of India, particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs, to immediately intervene and ensure:
- Impartial and professional conduct of all security operations.
- Adequate protection of vulnerable villages and civilian populations.
- Independent investigation into the killings of the three pastors and twelve innocent villagers.
- Immediate measures to prevent further attacks, arson, and displacement.
- Accountability for any lapses or acts of bias in the discharge of security duties.
As a mark of protest against the continuing violence and perceived failure to ensure justice and security, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) hereby imposes an Emergency Bandh/Shutdown* along National Highway-2 (NH-2) and National Highway-37 (NH-37) with immediate effect from 4:00 PM on Sunday, 21 June 2026, until further notice.
Medical emergencies, Ambulances and Humanitarian Relief Activities shall be exempted from the purview of the bandh. CoTU appeals to the public to maintain peace, discipline, and restraint during the course of the protest.
CoTU remains committed to protecting the rights, security, and dignity of the Kuki-Zo people and urges the Central Government to act decisively, impartially, and without delay to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
