TWO Kuki men were killed during an attack on Kultuh village in Kamjong district, Manipur, on 11 June 2026, according to information released by local sources, while a retired Indian Army officer has publicly alleged that National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Eastern Flank)) was behind the violence.
The deceased were identified as:
Mr. Letminlun Haokip, 34, son of Mr. Sonkhosei Haokip and Mrs. Veikhonem Haokip.
Mr. Lunminthang Haokip, 36, son of the late Mr. Thongkholun Haokip and Mrs. Lhaineng Haokip.
Local accounts allege that the two men were shot dead and their bodies were subsequently charred during the attack on the village.
In a social media post, Maj. Digvijay Singh Rawat (Retd.), an Indian Army veteran and Kirti Chakra awardee, claimed that the Kuki village of Kultuh near the India–Myanmar border was set ablaze by NSCN(EF) militants. He alleged that two Kuki civilians were “burnt and killed alive” and asserted that the group has been fueling the cycle of violence in the region.
Rawat also alleged that four NSCN(EF) militants were previously killed by another NSCN faction over the distribution of extortion money within Manipur. In the same post, he further claimed that NSCN(EF) was involved in the looting of ₹15 crore from a Punjab National Bank branch in Ukhrul.
Meanwhile, local sources attributed responsibility for the Kultuh attack to NSCN-IM, NSCN-Eastern Flank (NSCN-EF), and the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA). However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and no official confirmation from government authorities or statements from the accused groups were immediately available at the time of reporting.
The social media post was accompanied by images purportedly showing houses engulfed in flames and casualties from the incident, though the authenticity of the images and the claims surrounding them could not be independently verified.
The attack has heightened concerns over security in parts of Manipur, particularly in areas along the India–Myanmar border, where multiple armed groups remain active. Authorities are expected to continue investigations into the incident.
