LAMKA, June 26, 2026: The Zomi Students' Federation–General Headquarters (ZSF-GHQ) has reaffirmed its position on identity and nomenclature, stating that it does not recognize or endorse the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) or any of its publications, activities, or terminology.
In a press release issued on Friday, ZSF-GHQ said the organisation does not accept the use of the term "Kuki-Zo" and other related terminologies such as "Kacha Naga," describing them as unacceptable. It alleged that the projection of the KZC as a body representing both Kuki and Zomi communities was an unsuccessful attempt by the organisation to portray itself as such.
The Federation also referred to Resolution No. 1 adopted by the Zomi Council (ZC) during its Annual General Assembly in 2024, which rejected the term "Kuki-Zo" as a legitimate identity. As a frontal organisation under the Zomi Council, ZSF-GHQ said it remains committed to the identity and terminology of "Zomi" and will not associate itself with organisations or terminologies that differ from the Council's stand.
The student body further stated that it would take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of Zomi people living in other districts. It also appealed to all concerned to ensure their protection, asserting that the Zomi community is peace-loving and not involved in the ongoing conflicts.
