The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has condemned what it described as an armed attack allegedly carried out by NSCN-IM at Kaiphundai village on Friday morning, calling it an act that showed "complete disregard for human life".
In a press statement issued by ZUF on 26 June 2026, the organisation said it had been working to promote peace and communal harmony in Manipur amid the state's fragile security situation. It alleged that the attack had created fear and insecurity among the public.
ZUF further accused NSCN-IM of provoking unrest and attempting to exert influence over the Zeliangrong region for financial gain. It maintained that violence against fellow indigenous people could not be justified under any political ideology or revolutionary movement.
The organisation appealed to the public to reject all forms of violence and support efforts to restore peace and normalcy. It also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the public and taking defensive measures against what it described as destructive elements in society.
