Manipur: Youth Group Seeks Daily NH-02 Security Escort for Civilians

Senapati, 29 July 2026: Youth Rise for Change (YR4C), a Senapati-based youth organisation, has urged the Superintendent of Police, Senapati, to arrange daily security escort convoys along National Highway-02 (NH-02) between Senapati and Imphal to ensure the safe movement of civilians.

In a memorandum addressed to SP Zakir Zaib, IPS, the organisation highlighted the severe hardships faced by the people of Senapati following the prolonged closure of NH-02 since the outbreak of the Naga-Kuki conflict in Manipur. According to the memorandum, students appearing for examinations, patients seeking medical treatment, government employees, businesspersons and families travelling to catch flights are currently forced to use the NH-102A route via Ukhrul. A journey that normally takes around one-and-a-half hours now takes more than ten hours due to the longer route and poor road conditions.

YR4C also expressed concern over security risks along the alternative route, including reports of ambushes and other disturbances that threaten the safety of travellers. The organisation appealed to the district administration, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, CRPF, Army and other security agencies to coordinate efforts to restore safe movement on NH-02.

Among its key demands, the organisation requested three daily security escort convoys in both directions between Senapati and Imphal for civilian vehicles, uninterrupted movement for students, patients, government officials and the general public, and action to restore free and lawful movement on NH-02 by preventing illegal obstructions.

Describing the proposal as a humanitarian measure, YR4C said the initiative would provide much-needed relief to thousands of citizens, restore public confidence, and improve access to essential services. The organisation urged the authorities to take prompt action in the interest of public safety and welfare.
