Indpendence Day Celebrated at Border Town Moreh

DC highlights District Progress, Governance and Welfare initiatives 

Tengnoupal, August 15, 2026 (DIO): District Administration, Tengnoupal joins the rest of the country in celebrating the 80^th Independence Day at Galngam Lentoul, Moreh, Tengnoupal district.  Deputy Commissioner, Tengnoupal Shri Saurabh Yadav, IAS graced the celebration as Chief Guest. Soon after the arrival of the Chief Guest, he reviews the Parade and hoisted  the National Flag and take the  “Rastriya Salute”.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Saurabh Yadav, DC Tengnoupal said  that our freedom fighters gave us an independent country. Our responsibility is to ensure that the next generation inherits a country in which they can live with dignity, opportunity and confidence. In Moreh, that responsibility has a very special meaning. We are standing in one of India's most unique border towns. For people elsewhere, a border may simply be a line on a map but for the people of Moreh and Tengnoupal, the border is part of everyday life. It is the road we travel. It is the market in which people earn their livelihoods. It is the movement of people and goods. It is the hills and villages that surround us. And it is also an enormous opportunity. Moreh has long been described as India's gateway towards South-East Asia. But a gateway becomes meaningful only when the people who live around that gateway also prosper. So when we speak about the development of Moreh and Tengnoupal, we must speak in very practical terms. 

He stated that for our border areas, the Vibrant Villages Programme-II gives us an important opportunity. But I believe a vibrant village is not simply a village with more buildings. A village is vibrant when children want to study there, when young people see opportunities there, when livelihoods grow, when essential services reach people and when families can imagine their future there. That is the spirit with which we must approach the development of our border villages. 

The DC informed that we are undertaking the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. We are also preparing for the Census 2027. These may appear to be technical administrative exercises. But they are fundamentally about something much larger. They are about making sure that every person counts. When we work through GUIDE: SIR Tengnoupal, when our BLOs explain a notice to a citizen, when an official helps someone locate a document, the purpose is not merely to complete a process. The purpose is to make government understandable and accessible. The Census too is not merely about numbers. Behind every number is a person. Behind every household is a family. 

He further stated that the strength of Tengnoupal is that government does not work here alone. Our village authorities, churches, women's organisations, youth organisations, teachers, healthcare workers and civil society have always played an enormous role in community life. In difficult terrain and remote areas, this partnership becomes even more important. Government can provide a programme. But communities give it life. Government can build a school. Teachers and parents make it a place of learning. Government can create a playground. Young people turn it into a place of aspiration. Government can bring connectivity. But it is our children who will use that connectivity to discover a much larger world. And that brings me back to our young people. I want every child standing here today to feel that being born in a remote or border district should never mean having smaller dreams. 

The hills around us should not become walls around your ambitions. Technology is shrinking distance. Opportunities are changing. Moreh can grow through trade and enterprise. Our villages can create livelihoods through agriculture, horticulture, renewable energy, tourism, local products and new forms of entrepreneurship. Some of our children will leave Tengnoupal to study and work elsewhere. The District Administration must work every day to deserve the trust that our people, and especially our children, place in us, he added. 

Parade commander, Addl. SP ( L & O) Shri Khutheibam Farook Ali, MPS  led the  March pass contingents from District Police, 36 AR, Moreh Band party, BSF, Anganwadi, Moreh college – NCC Girls senior wing, EMRS- NCC Girls junior wing, EMRS Boys, Govt. aided primary school, Chelep Aided Primary schools, Tengnoupal govt. high school, All community welfare school (boys and girls) who have participated in today’s Independence Day celebration.

As part of the celebration, Certificates of Appreciation were given to 52  selected govt. officers/officials  of various department of the district by the DC, SP and ADC. Cultural dance and special performance were showcast by various cultural troupes including HTC cultural troupe and Khongkhang Cultural troupe. Sports materials and Red blanket were also distributed.

A DIPR Publication  “Manipur Today” highlighting the activities and achievements of various scheme/programmes of the government implemented/taken up in various  district of Manipur  and important articles were also distributed to the dignitaries and public.

The event was attended by Shri Chaitanya Mishra, IPS SP Tengnoupal, ADC Moreh, SDOs, DLOs, officials among others.
