IMPHAL, August 27, 2026: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribe Council of Manipur (JTCM) has expressed deep condolences and “profound sorrow” over an alleged attack on Naga civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district on August 27, 2026.
In a statement issued from its office in Imphal, the JTCM condemned what it described as a “tragic and heinous attack”, alleging that four Naga civilians were killed and another person injured.
According to the statement, at approximately 8:30 am on August 27, armed Kuki militants allegedly belonging to the KNF (P) and KRA, under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, identified as Home Secretary of KNF/UPF, ambushed Naga civilians between Makui Asang and Thanamba Naga village.
The JTCM said the area serves as a vital lifeline for Naga communities living along the IT Road. It identified the alleged victims as:
- Tadsongwibou Ringkangmai – Founder and Principal of Right Path School, T. Khullen.
- Mariakdibou Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club.
- Wisobou Chorenamai – Chairman, Chawangking Village Authority.
- Anil Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club.
- Gaikamung Ringkangmai – Injured.
The JTCM said the incident was not isolated but the latest in what it described as a series of aggressive and organised attacks by Kuki Naro terrorists operating with impunity under the SoO agreement.
It said the systematic targeting of Naga people had become an “undeniable pattern” and strongly criticised what it called the government's “partisan, ineffective and disgraceful” response to the alleged atrocities.
The committee also criticised the deployment of security forces and CoBRA units, alleging that such actions had obstructed democratic agitation and sit-in protests by the Naga community. It further alleged that security forces had been used against village defence volunteers while Naga leaders were being arrested.
The JTCM alleged that the government was tightening security on one side while another community continued to face attacks. Describing this as a “policy of appeasement”, it questioned how long civilians, leaders, fathers and brothers could allegedly be killed without accountability.
The committee demanded immediate justice and warned that if justice was not delivered, the Naga people would be left with no choice but to chart their own path to safety and dignity.
It said the government must accept full responsibility for the consequences of what it described as inaction, adding: “We demand justice. We demand it now. We will accept nothing less.”
