LNC-M regrets Namdilong incident, urges peace and restraint

Imphal, August 17, 2026: The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) has expressed regret over the incident at Namdilong in which vehicles belonging to Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and the Poumai Naga Tsiiidoumai (PNTM) were damaged by bandh volunteers.

In a press release dated August 17, the LNC-M said there was “no intention whatsoever” to cause disrespect, inconvenience or distress to the Deputy Chief Minister or the PNTM. It said the Bandh Committee and the people of the Liangmai community hold Dikho in the highest esteem and deeply regret the incident.

According to the council, the incident occurred amid an already volatile and emotionally charged atmosphere following the killing of two Naga village volunteers at Langka. The situation was further aggravated by misinformation regarding the movement of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen through the sensitive area, it said.

The LNC-M stated that the vehicles arrived unexpectedly and that the volunteers, acting under heightened emotions and without knowing who owned the vehicles, committed the “unfortunate act”.

The council said prior communication regarding the movement and arrival of the vehicles could have helped avert the misunderstanding and prevented the incident.

The LNC-M appealed to members of the public and the Naga community to remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from further confrontation or retaliatory actions.

“At this critical juncture, peace, maturity, and mutual respect must prevail,” the council said.
