Thoubal DC holds session for Chandigarh, Puducherry students

Imphal, August 17,2026: The District Administration Thoubal led by Deputy Commissioner, Yumnam Robita, IAS, hosted a special interactive session today for a visiting delegation of 40 students and 4 faculty members from institutional colleges of Puducherry and Chandigarh at the Counting Hall, Deputy Commissioner Office Complex. The delegation, travelling from both the Union Territories (Chandigarh and Puducherry), visited the district as part of a national educational and cultural exchange programme "Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme", Government of India initiative organized by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC).

The main objective of the interactive session was to foster national integration, share administrative best practices, and provide the visiting students with first-hand insights into the unique cultural, socio-economic, and geographical landscape of Thoubal district.

During the session, the Deputy Commissioner gave a comprehensive overview of the district's administrative machinery, developmental projects, and governance initiatives. Speaking about Kauna Craft, DC said the students must look at the social fabric, where women are at the absolute forefront of the economy and governance. She also urged the visiting students to think about how modern technology, supply chain logistics, and engineering can optimize these traditional, household-centric handicraft industries without losing their cultural soul.

ADM, Aribam Amarjit Sharma, MCS, during the interactive session emphasized the vital role of youth in nation-building and encouraged the students to embrace diverse cultures found across the country to strengthen national unity.

Assistant Commissioner, Tenshubam Sangeeta, MCS, during the interaction stated that the students must absorb the essence of the Khongjom War Memorial Complex which stands tall as a reminder of universal valor. She also spoke on the commonalities and shared culinary heritages.

The interactive segment saw active participation from the enthusiastic students, who raised queries regarding local governance, cultural heritage, among others.

The faculty members expressed gratitude to the Thoubal District Administration for the warm hospitality and the insightful learning experience.

The event concluded a group photograph with the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner.

Dr. Lenin Shagolsem, NIT Manipur as the Convener and Dr. Ashish Ranjan, NIT Manipur as the Co-convenor led the visiting faculty and students for the Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme.
