Moreh group urges Manipur CM to act on NH-2 passenger safety

IMPHAL, Aug. 23, 2026 — The Committee on Protection of Meitei Victims, Moreh (COPMeV), has urged Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of passengers travelling on National Highway-2 and address security concerns in the state.

In a press release dated Aug. 22, the Moreh-based committee referred to the killing of people and displacement of residents since May 3, 2023, saying concerns over the safety of travellers had resurfaced after an alleged incident involving passengers travelling from Imphal to Guwahati on Aug. 21.

COPMeV called on the chief minister to respond to what it described as growing security concerns and to ensure that passengers using the highway are protected.

The committee also urged the government to review resettlement measures, particularly in areas affected by the conflict, and said that any rehabilitation process should take into account the security and safety of displaced communities.

COPMeV further appealed to the government to adopt a long-term peace policy and take concrete measures to address the concerns of affected people.

The statement was signed by Th. Budha Meitei, convenor of COPMeV, Moreh.
