Tamenglong, August 15, 2026: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at the New Helipad, Mini Secretariat complex in Tamenglong today, where Deputy Commissioner Dr L Angshim Dangshawa, IAS, hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute alongside Superintendent of Police Lanmiyo Luikham, MPS. This was the fourth time Dr Angshim hoisted the tricolour in Tamenglong as Deputy Commissioner on Independence Day.
The venue was shifted from the usual location owing to ongoing construction of a FIFA-standard turf ground at the district headquarters. Aligning with this year’s national theme, “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat 2047,” the District Administration recognized 13 young achievers and contributors for their outstanding work in sports, health, social service, arts & music, and education.
In his address as chief guest, Dr Angshim said he had fulfilled a long-held dream for the district by initiating the FIFA-standard football ground project and highlighted that more than 30 young footballers are currently training under the Khelo India programme. He urged the youth to carry forward the momentum, saying Tamenglong’s young people have begun turning the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 into reality.
The ceremony included a special rendition of Vande Mataram to commemorate 150 years of the song, and students from the Christian Heritage Institute performed a traditional dance. The program drew District-level officers, Assam Rifles, police personnel, students and large members of the public and was described by organizers as a grand.
Manipur Today magazine published by Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) was also distributed to the public present in the celebration success.
