VVEZ opposes CM Khemchand's proposed visit to Tengnoupal

Tengnoupal, August 14, 2026: The Village Volunteers, Eastern Zone (VVEZ), has expressed strong disappointment over reports of a proposed visit by Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand to Tengnoupal district.

In a press statement dated April 13, 2026, the VVEZ reiterated its “firm and unwavering” position that no Meitei individual would be permitted to cross the buffer zone between Kangleipak (Meitei Land) and Tengnoupal district (Kuki land).

According to the group, this position will remain in place until the Government of India officially acknowledges the separation between Kuki land and Meitei land and fulfils its demand for a separate administration in the form of a Union Territory with a legislature.

The VVEZ also issued a stern warning to Mr Khemchand and his associates, stating that “Tengnoupal is not Kangpokpi”. It claimed that the Kuki people in the area stand firmly united and warned that any attempt at intimidation or coercion would be met with “resolute resistance”.

The group further said that the pressure tactics it alleged were used in Kangpokpi would not prevail in Tengnoupal.

The VVEZ warned that, given the prevailing ground realities and sentiments of the people, any insistence on proceeding with the proposed visit despite its warnings could lead to “serious and unavoidable consequences”.

It added that responsibility for any such outcome would rest entirely with those who choose to ignore the concerns and position of the people.
