NHIDCL Assures Two Culverts After KSO Protest in CCpur

LAMKA, August 14, 2026: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has assured the construction of two additional culverts at Hmar Veng and Tuibong along Tidim Road, following a protest and intervention by the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur.

The development followed the expiry of a three-day ultimatum issued by KSO. As part of its protest, KSO sealed the NHIDCL office at Tuibong, demanding that the long-pending construction of the two culverts along Tidim Road be taken up.

On August 14, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, to discuss the matter. During the meeting, NHIDCL furnished a written response to KSO, explaining the reasons for the delay and outlining the proposed course of action.

In its letter, NHIDCL’s Deputy General Manager (P), Prabal Das, stated that the matter had been discussed in detail and brought to the notice of all concerned stakeholders.

The letter, bearing reference NHIDCL/PMU-CCPUR/Imphal-Moirang-Churachandpur/2026-27/465, dated August 14, 2026, was issued in response to KSO Churachandpur’s letter No. 05/KSO-CCP/GR/2025-08 dated August 7, 2026.

NHIDCL said that, due to the termination of the contractor previously engaged for the road work along the Imphal-Moirang-Churachandpur road on NH-150, the additional two culverts could not be taken up immediately, as no contractor was currently engaged for the work. Consequently, execution of the culvert work could not be undertaken at present.

The corporation, however, assured that the two culverts would be considered in the subsequent tender for the balance work, which was under process. The culverts would be constructed once the new agency was deployed.

Following the assurance, KSO Churachandpur reopened the NHIDCL office. In its press statement, issued through its Department of Information and Publicity, KSO appreciated the timely intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, Churachandpur, in addressing the issue.

KSO said it welcomed NHIDCL’s written assurance to construct the two culverts and expedite their construction. The organisation further stated that it would continue to monitor the progress of the work and expected NHIDCL to honour its commitment in a timely manner.

The issue concerns the two culverts located at Hmar Veng and Tuibong along Tidim Road, which KSO had been pressing NHIDCL to construct.
