Kuki-Zo Council Rejects Naga MLAs' Appeal to Amit Shah

LAMKA — The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has officially responded to a recent letter submitted by nine Manipur Naga MLAs to Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, titled "Urgent Appeal for Immediate Action Against Kuki-Zo Leaders." While the Naga MLAs called for action against Kuki-Zo leaders over the killing of Naga civilians and advocated for unbiased action to restore normalcy, the KZC emphasized that true peace requires equal accountability for all sides.

According to the statement issued by KZC Spokesperson and Information & Publicity Secretary Ginza Vualzong, the council noted that Manipur's Naga leaders cannot claim neutrality while remaining silent on ongoing violence against the Kuki-Zo community. The KZC highlighted that since the beginning of this year, more than 20 Kuki-Zo civilians have been killed and over 15 Kuki-Zo villages have been burnt down in attacks involving Naga armed groups, including suspected cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson). The council stressed that these severe incidents cannot be ignored while demanding selective action.

The KZC reiterated that its leadership has consistently pursued peace and reconciliation on moral and humanitarian grounds, even seeking an apology to end the cycle of violence and rebuild mutual trust. However, the council expressed concern that the refusal of Manipur's Naga leaders to acknowledge these peace gestures raises serious questions about their genuine commitment to peace and justice.

Firmly asserting that "killing civilians and burning villages will never bring peace," the KZC stated that if Manipur Naga leaders genuinely desire a return to normalcy, they must choose dialogue, restraint, accountability, and reconciliation over selective condemnation and violence. The council concluded that peace cannot be built on selective justice, naming equal accountability as the only viable path forward.
