Kuki-Zo Group Condemns Lhungjang Attack and School Burning

KANGPOKPI, September 7, 2026: The Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers, Twilang Lhang, has strongly condemned the reported attack on Lhungjang Village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, alleging that villagers and civilians were targeted in the early hours of Monday, September 7.

According to the Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers, the incident took place at around 5 am despite the deployment of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel and other security forces in the village. It alleged that NSCN-IM and Liangmei Village Guard were involved in the attack.

The group also condemned the reported burning of a school in the village, describing the destruction of an educational institution and attacks on civilians as grave acts of violence.

Questioning the Government’s response, the group asked why Kuki villages remained vulnerable despite the presence of security personnel. It said the deployment of forces would have little meaning if civilians continued to face attacks and property destruction.

The Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers called on the Government and security authorities to take immediate measures to protect Kuki villages, prevent further attacks and ensure accountability for those responsible.

The group further warned that continued failure to protect civilians could lead to further deterioration of the situation, while urging authorities to act before additional violence occurs.
