Manipuri Musician Chongtham Vikram Singh KILLLED in Delhi

NEW DELHI, September 9, 2026: A dispute over late-night commotion in southeast Delhi’s Kilokari village ended in tragedy when 54-year-old Chongtham Vikram Singh, a prominent music teacher and pioneer of Manipur's Western music scene, lost his life following a physical assault.

The confrontation began around 11:30 PM when Singh stepped out of his third-floor apartment to discard trash and confronted local food establishment workers and delivery staff making noise in the alley. The verbal argument quickly turned violent. When Singh attempted to retreat to safety, the group pursued him into the residential building, overpowering him in the corridor on the third floor.

Singh suffered extensive injuries from blunt force trauma before his son managed to intervene and rush him to Holy Family Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment early the following morning.

Delhi Police have launched a full-scale investigation, using local surveillance footage to identify the suspects. Authorities have taken eight individuals into custody, seven adults and one juvenile, all associated with local dhabas and delivery operations in the area.

The tragedy has sparked grief and protests across the capital, prompting candlelight vigils and calls from Northeast community leaders for a swift, unbiased prosecution. While civil society groups have raised concerns regarding potential targeted discrimination, law enforcement officials state that the primary motive investigated thus far remains the spontaneous escalation of a noise dispute.
