Myanmar: She Knelt Between Army & Protestors

SHE KNELT BETWEEN ARMED OFFICERS AND 

PROTESTERS—AND BEGGED THEM NOT TO SHOOT. 🥹🙏

On February 28, 2021, in Myitkyina, Myanmar, Sister Ann Rose Nu Tawng saw security forces approaching protesters near the clinic where she worked.

She could have stepped away.

Instead, the Catholic nun walked into the street, dropped to her knees, stretched out her arms and pleaded with the officers to spare the young people behind her. ❤️

For those moments, she placed herself between armed security forces and protesters seeking safety.

The photographs traveled around the world—one woman kneeling in the street, armed with nothing but courage and compassion.

Her actions later earned her recognition among the BBC’s 100 Women of 2021, while Pope Francis publicly referenced her courage.

No weapon.

No armour.

No force.

Just one woman willing to put herself in harm’s way to protect others.

Sometimes courage doesn’t stand tall.

Sometimes… it kneels.
