Kuki MLA Kimneo Hangshing Condemns killing of two young men

Lamka, November 1, 2026: Manipur MLA Kimneo Hangshing has strongly condemned the alleged killing of two young men, Paoginal Hangshing and Tinginlun Chongloi, both aged 20, from Taphou Kuki village. The killings were reportedly carried out by Kacha-Naga militants of the NSCN-IM and their allies, according to her statement.

In a statement issued on November 1, Hangshing described the incident as a brutal and cold-blooded act of violence. She said that, if the allegations were established, the killings would represent a serious attack on human dignity, the fundamental right to life, and the principles of peace and coexistence.

She expressed deep sorrow over the loss of two young lives, saying that their deaths had left their families, village and wider community in profound grief. She added that the two young men had their whole futures ahead of them, filled with hope, ambition and opportunities.

The MLA said there could be no justification or moral defence for the deliberate killing of innocent people. She stressed that no political ambition, ethnic hostility, territorial dispute or armed affiliation could ever be placed above the value of human life.

Hangshing categorically condemned the incident and called on the competent authorities to begin an immediate, impartial and thorough investigation into the killings. She urged the authorities to identify those responsible, including anyone who may have helped or supported the crime, and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.

She further said that no individual or organisation should be allowed to escape accountability because of political influence, armed affiliation or any other consideration.

The MLA also appealed to the Government of Manipur, the Government of India and the concerned law-enforcement agencies to take urgent and concrete steps to ensure the safety and security of civilians, prevent further violence and restore public confidence in the rule of law.

She emphasised that protecting innocent lives must remain an absolute priority and that justice should not be selective or influenced by outside considerations.

Concluding his statement, Hangshing said the loss of the two young men must not be met with indifference, silence or empty assurances. She stressed that the people deserved answers and the bereaved families deserved justice.

She added that once the perpetrators were identified through a fair and credible investigation, they must face the full consequences of the law.
