Kakching, September 12, 2026 (DIO-IPR): A "Digital and Financial Literacy Programme", under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) scheme, was organised by the District Social Welfare Office under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching at HFAO Senior Citizen Home at Arong Khunou, Kakching District.
The programme was held with an objective to enhance digital inclusion and financial awareness among elderly citizens by equipping them with essential digital skills and promoting safe use of online services.
During the session, the elders were sensitised regarding safe digital practices. The officials educated them on basic smartphone operations, communication apps and secure online navigation. At the event, the organisers also sensitised the senior citizens on digital payment systems and safe online banking. They cautioned and advised the senior citizens to protect their PINs, passwords and OTPs to avoid unwanted incidents.
Regarding the cyber fraud prevention, the participants were made aware about precautions against fake calls, suspicious links and online financial scams. On pension and welfare awareness, they were sensitised about the Government-backed financial schemes and support services.
The senior citizens were guided on financial planning, pension management, safe investments and effective savings management. An interactive session was also held where the participants cleared their doubts with the officials regarding various topics.
