WKZIC & UKC JOINT PRESS STATEMENT
Joint Meeting Resolution No.02 dated 19th September 2026.
The World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) and the United Kuki Council (UKC), after 6 months long close observation and scrutiny over the functioning of the so claimed ‘Apex Body of the Kuki Tribes”, monopolished by few leaderships on promotion basis, strongly condemn and reject the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) press note dated, 3rd March 2026 and the subsequent “Ukhrul Times” report dated, 8th April 2026, describing WKZIC and UKC as “unmandated” or “unrecognised” organisations.
Such statements are misleading, unwarranted and institutionally immature. KIM leadership has Zero Public Mandate Socially, Politically, Financially and Administratively ranging from Women-Children to Intellectuals and Bereaucrats in Kuki society, having no exclusive ‘Constitutional or Legal Authority” to decide which lawful civil-society organisation the Kuki people may establish or support.
The Constitution of India, Article 19(1)(c) guarantees citizens the right to form associations, subject to reasonable constitutional restrictions. Accordingly, the formation of WKZIC, UKC and others is within the democratic and constitutional framework of India, to serve the Kuki-Zo people and accomodate all the ertswhile Kuki tribes A to Z, which are beyond the scope and vision of KIM and its constitution.
The present KIM leadership should first address questions concerning its own institutional accountability, credibility, realibility, knowledge to conduct proper elections, financial statement of 2023-24 Worldwide Public Funding financial transparency and utilisation of public resources, including the publicly discussed ₹2.6 crore MP/LADP-related funding of 2024, before attempting to question the legitimacy of other organisations. Any allegation concerning financial irregularity should, of course, be established through proper audit and documentary evidence.
As KIM leadership is adamant to consecutive 12 years long appeal for inclusivity, UKC was established on 30th March 2026 out of necessity precisely to provide a broader platform for the various Kuki tribes and sub-tribes, which whose representation cannot reasonably be monopolised by a section of people under one organisation, with Zero accountability.
We therefore call upon the KIM leadership to refrain from issuing such unwarranted declarations against independent and inclusive Kuki-Zo and Kuki organisations and to respect democratic pluralism, constitutional rights and the rule of law in this digital era.
If any person or group attempts to intimidate, threaten or unlawfully interfere with WKZIC, UKC or their affiliated organisations - including through underground/UG elements- the concerned organisations shall pursue appropriate legal remedies before the competent authorities and ‘Courts of Law’.
The Kuki people need leaderships that can lead its people to the right tract with a clear ‘Vision’ to unify through consultation, transparency and mutual respect- not monopoly, intimidation or unilateral declarations of mandate.
